Joseph had to stay home while his friends went to school, and he fell behind in his studies. But then, NEF’s Back-to-School Campaign changed everything.
At NEF, we believe that no child should miss out on an education because of financial constraints. That’s why our annual Back-to-School Campaign is so important. Each year, we raise funds to ensure that children like Joseph have everything they need to start the school year—uniforms, school fees, books, and even meals.
In Uganda’s underserved communities, millions of children are at risk of dropping out simply because their families can’t afford the basics. For many parents, school fees, uniforms, and supplies represent an overwhelming financial burden. Without support, these children face a future without education, limiting their opportunities for a better life.
Thanks to the generous support of donors, the Back-to-School Campaign has helped over 5,000 children return to school each year. The campaign raises $500,000 annually, which is used to provide children with the tools they need to succeed—everything from uniforms and books to covering their school fees.
Joseph is one of the children who benefited from this campaign. “I was so happy when NEF gave me a new uniform and paid my school fees. Fatuma, a 13-year-old girl, was one of the top students in her class. But when her father lost his job, she had to drop out of school to help support her family. Thanks to the Back-to-School Campaign, Fatuma was able to return to school and is now thriving. “I thought I would never go back, but NEF gave me hope. Now I dream of becoming a lawyer,” she says.
